Bridge for Africa Bridge for Africa is a 501(c)(3) Fair Trade nonprofit dedicated to promoting self‑sufficiency, sustainable income, and the dignity of work for artisans in rural African communities. Founded in 2003, our organization began with a chance meeting between an African and an American woman who recognized both the extraordinary artistic talent found across Africa and the economic challenges artisans face in earning a living wage for their work. Our mission is to harness the outstanding craftsmanship of African artisans and bring their handmade products to the U.S. market through ethical, long‑term Fair Trade partnerships. As proud members of the Fair Trade Federation, we adhere to strict Fair Trade principles that ensure fair wages, equal opportunities, safe working conditions, and relationships built on transparency and mutual respect. Today, Bridge for Africa partners with over 650 skilled artisans across South Africa and other regions of Africa. We support traditional and contemporary craft techniques including handwoven telephone wire baskets, beaded animals, wire animals, keychains, jewelry, grass baskets, beaded baskets, and handcrafted holiday ornaments. Each piece reflects the cultural heritage, creativity, and artistry of the communities we serve. By paying living wages and providing consistent work, we help artisans build sustainable livelihoods, support their families, and invest in future generations. Our commitment to Fair Trade promotes economic independence, preserves traditional craft skills, and strengthens |
